CHARLOTTE’S TOP PICKS

Abkhazi Garden
The setting was perfect for tea, tranquil and calm. We went on a perfect August day, which made it special. We sat by a window with a cool breeze and a view of the garden. It is my top pick for the freshly baked delicious pastries and scones, good portion sizes and great value. Service was great, not too OTT.

The Latch
The beautiful heritage house, whether you sit inside one of the paneled rooms, or out on the patio with views of the marina.  Excellent value for money, the best cream so far. The nicest smoked salmon sandwiches (and I am not a lover of salmon!).

The Empress
I may be bias as we went on my birthday, and I love birthdays. The food was delicious and the tea perfect. I didn’t want to like it, but I did.  It was not perfect, look at the detailed review for more details.

ANGELA’S TOP PICKS

Abkhazi Garden
I love that Abekhazi is so small, intimate, and beautiful. The tea room itself is well appointed and cozy. The staff are attentive but laid back enough to give you space to enjoy your tea. The food quality is high and the price is so reasonable! Absolutely my favourite high tea to date.

The Latch
Nothing parallels the sheer uniqueness of this tea house. The heritage log mansion has ghosts. GHOSTS, people. They turn the lights on and off as you enjoy your tea. The rooms are sweet and the view spectacular. While the sweet components of the high tea are not top quality, the rest of the food is excellent and includes a reasonable portion of REAL CLOTTED CREAM. That’s a win for everyone. The service is personal and passionate. You can tell the owner and concierge really care about the place. The price is ridiculously good for the experience. It is a bit of a drive but worth the trip.

The White Heather

The White Heather is a cozy tea room away from the bustle of downtown. Though the price isn’t anything to write home about, the serving size is. You could easily get away with sharing tea if they let you. Since they don’t, you can pack home what you don’t eat and have your own high tea in the bath (whiskey optional). They are a well oiled high tea machine and I appreciate that they are good at what they do. Absolutely reasonable and will not disappoint.

I’d like to suggest that the tea at Butchart Gardens is my favourite. Although a bit pricey because you need to pay admission to the gardens, the food, the tea, the atmosphere and the service are the best I’ve experienced. 2nd choice for me is the Empress, followed by Adrienne’s Tea Garden. My sister and I and our daughters used to go out for tea for our birthdays each year (until we figured out how much money we were spending doing that 4 times a year!). Now we go once a year.
